Just hours after Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on Iraqi bases housing U.S. soldiers, the aircraft crashed in a farmland minutes after takeoff from Tehran’s airport. The cause of the crash is still unknown but officials say mechanical failure could be possible since it’s a 3 1/2 year-old Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, extended their condolences to all the victims’ family.

Canada has offered technical assistance to help with the investigation.
