Ontario public schools remain closed until September

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced public schools will not reopen until September because of the pandemic.

The decision came after the Premier consulted with the province’s health experts. “The safety of our children is my top priority. I’m just not going to risk it,” he said.

Students will continue with online learning for the rest of the school year. Premier Ford assured that all graduating students will still be able to graduate and students will also receive their report cards.

Private schools, licenced child-care centres, and EarlyON programs will also remain closed. Children daycare centres will only reopen as the province move towards Stage 2 of its reopening plan.

Education Minister, Stephen Lecce said an announcement on the full reopening plan for schools in the province is expected by the end of June.
