Canada Emergency Response Benefit rolls out today

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau included in his announcement yesterday that Canadians can start to sign up today to receive Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) – one of the government’s aid to help those who have lost their income due to the pandemic.

Applicants will get to choose to receive their money via direct deposit or by mail. The first payment will arrive within 3-5 days if they chose the direct deposit option, while 10 days if it is sent by mail.

Those qualifying for the benefit can sign up by going to canada.ca. A quick guideline is also provided on the site – Who is eligible and How to apply.

CERB will serve as temporary income support, a taxable $2,000 per month for up to 4 months.

Currently, there are 15,283 positive cases in Canada (As of April 5, 2020 – 5 P.M.)
