Michael Sobrepeña: From Silent Supporter to Champion Coach

You might not notice him at a party. Off the court, Michael Sobrepeña is quiet, unassuming. But inside a gym, he’s electric — clapping, calling plays, locked into every drill with the intensity of someone who’s found his purpose.

Michael didn’t start out as a coach. Just a proud dad cheering from the sidelines, watching his son Tristan run drills at camp. But the spark was undeniable. With the encouragement of Coach Tone at Undefeated, Michael stepped in — and never looked back.

Three years later, he’s led multiple teams to championships at CYBL, Phil Hoops, and NABA. He’s earned Coach of the Year, built programs with precision and heart, and kept his mantra simple: Energy and Effort.

His son Tristan, now a standout point guard, shares his love for the game — and his dreams. “My favorite player is my dad… and Kyrie,” he grins.

For Michael, coaching isn’t just about wins. It’s about instilling confidence, discipline, and the belief that even grade schoolers can dream big. College ball, the NBA, maybe even the PBA — he wants every kid in his gym to feel it’s within reach.

And behind every practice plan, there’s family. His wife Ra, always supporting. His daughter, now a rep baller herself. It’s a team effort — and Michael’s just getting started.
