At the heart of Ajax, Ontario, tucked between suburban streets and local shops, sits a humble Filipino restaurant with a bold spirit. It’s called R&B Bread and Noodles, and for many in the community, it’s more than just a food spot—it’s a taste of home.
Founded by Rena, a former caregiver turned realtor turned restaurateur, R&B was born from a simple idea: combine her husband’s love for cooking with her desire to bring the Filipino community together. The result is a cozy, no-frills eatery that serves authentic dishes like Ilocos empanada, Pinoy mami, and Ilocos miki—each one crafted with care, flavor, and heart.
What sets their Ilocos empanada apart? It’s the longganisa, the green papaya, and a dough so flavorful, it holds its own even before the first bite. “We added a secret ingredient in the dough,” Rena shares, “kaya kahit balat pa lang, lasang-lasa mo na.”
Beyond the food, customers keep coming back for the unbeatable value. “We always have a deal,” Rena explains. “I make sure each serving is fairly priced but still profitable, so we can keep serving the community.”
Starting wasn’t easy. Competing in a crowded food scene while managing seasonal dips—especially during harsh Canadian winters—pushed them to be creative. Their solution: strong online presence and dependable delivery services. Slowly but surely, word spread through Facebook and Instagram, and R&B found its loyal crowd.
For Rena, opening this restaurant wasn’t just business—it was about connection. “We knew Ajax had a big Filipino population,” she says. “As a realtor, I knew the area. As a Filipina, I knew what it needed.”
Her advice to fellow entrepreneurs? “Tiyaga lang. You build slowly. You keep showing up.”
At R&B, they don’t just serve food. They serve memories, flavors from home, and a warm welcome to every kababayan who walks through the door.
