Sometimes you pass by a place a hundred times and never realize it’s been in a Hollywood movie.
That’s what happened to Drei.
In one of her latest vlogs, she takes us on a casual walk through downtown Toronto — specifically to Yonge and Dundas, the same intersection transformed into Midway City in the 2016 film Suicide Squad. It’s the big action scene where chaos breaks loose, with Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and military tanks taking over the streets. Back then, Drei was just a high school student who had only heard whispers of a Hollywood shoot in town. She had no idea it was right there.
What makes the vlog special isn’t just the movie trivia. It’s the way she frames the everyday. She grabs a quick hot dog (a full meal here, but just “meryenda” by Filipino standards), observes how vendors set up differently than in the Philippines, and reflects on how close Hollywood really is to home — even if we don’t always see it.
Drei used to work behind the scenes in Toronto’s film industry. She knows where the props come from, how sets are built, and how even a quiet alley can be turned into a blockbuster backdrop. And she knows how much of Toronto has quietly shaped the way movies look.
She says it best: “Don’t underestimate your city.”
Because sometimes, the street you cross on the way to work was once Gotham. Or Midway City. Or something in between.
And maybe, without realizing it, you’ve already walked past a film set in action.
