Coffee is a big part of Kyle’s day. He admits he can’t function without it. So one morning, instead of heading to a big chain café, Kyle decided to explore some of Markham’s local coffee spots—small businesses with great flavor and character.
First stop, Café Mode. A cozy spot with a clean, relaxing vibe—perfect for studying, working, or just unwinding. Kyle ordered an iced coffee, while his friend tried the matcha coconut. Both drinks hit the spot, but it’s the atmosphere that makes you want to stay.
Next, Behind the Alley Coffee Shop in Unionville. The name fits perfectly—it’s tucked right beside The Alley. Their bestseller, the Orange Americano, stands out with burnt rosemary and caramelized orange slices. The barista even gives instructions on how to drink it. “It’s fancy, but fun,” Kyle says.
Finally, 5 Plus Coffee. A small, busy café with steady foot traffic and a simple but modern setup. Kyle tried the Tiramisu Latte—creamy, mildly sweet, and rich in flavor. They also serve pastries and sandwiches, making it a popular local hangout.
After three cups, Kyle realized you don’t need to go downtown for great coffee. Markham’s local cafés serve not just caffeine, but community—one cup at a time.
