Asadong Matua and the Taste of Home: Crave and Company at Bale Kapampangan

In this episode of Crave and Company, host Kyle links up with Mark from Lumikha Media for a cozy food trip to Bale Kapampangan, a fine-casual Filipino restaurant tucked in North York.

From the outside, the place might look like fine dining—with its elegant plating and well-lit interiors—but once inside, the atmosphere is warm, familiar, and family-friendly. Balik Kapampangan was designed for moments like post-church lunches and weekend family dinners—where everyone feels welcome, from kids to grandparents.

What caught Kyle’s attention was a dish called Asadong Matwa. In Kapampangan, matwa means “old” or “traditional,” and the dish delivered just that—tender, slow-braised pork in a sweet-savory sauce that recalled the flavors of home. One bite and the crew was silent; it was that good. The garlic rice? Generous and perfectly matched.

Beyond the food, Kyle and Mark admired the restaurant’s paluto-style market-to-table concept. Fresh seafood is laid out for customers to choose from, then cooked on the spot—adding to the experience of authenticity and freshness.

Located at 3780 Bathurst Street, North York (corner of Bathurst and Wilson), Balik Kapampangan isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a reminder of where we come from, plated with pride and served with heart.
