The Sinclair Brothers – Building a Legacy Through Basketball

When you think of basketball, it’s more than just a game; it’s a lifestyle, a passion, and for Patrick and Andy Sinclair, it’s a mission. Growing up in the vibrant Filipino-Canadian community of Bathurst and Wilson, the Sinclair brothers have turned their love for basketball into a movement, inspiring the next generation of athletes.

From Driveway Dreams to Basketball Ambassadors

Patrick and Andy’s story began in their childhood driveway, playing 2-on-2 games with friends. Without access to formal training or resources, they took matters into their own hands. They crafted their own equipment using wood for backboards and hockey goalie pads for drills. Inspired by NBA games and Filipino basketball culture, they built their skills and their love for the game one shot at a time.

“We didn’t have the money for training, so we learned from YouTube and each other,” shares Andy. “Those moments laid the foundation for everything we do now.”

The Filipino Touch: Creativity and Grit

The Sinclair brothers credit the Filipino style of basketball for shaping their approach to the game. They emphasize creativity, adaptability, and a relentless work ethic—traits they weave into their training.

“Our community taught us to innovate, even with limited resources,” says Patrick. “We bring that same energy into our sessions, teaching players moves that don’t rely on extreme athleticism but are rooted in skill and strategy.”

Turning Passion into Purpose

The pandemic was a turning point. Laid off from their jobs, the brothers used government support payments to invest in their dream: a home fitness gym. From makeshift racks to professional equipment, they built a space where they could train and mentor aspiring players.

Their dedication didn’t stop there. They expanded their impact by coaching at Georgian College and Aurora’s Synergy Sports, providing a platform for players to develop not just their skills but their confidence.

A Philosophy of Hard Work and Resilience

For the Sinclairs, basketball isn’t just about technique; it’s about life lessons. From pre-dawn training sessions to late-night drills after tournaments, they embody the idea that success is built on hard work and perseverance.

“Basketball taught us discipline and resilience,” says Patrick. “We want to pass that on to our players, preparing them not just for games but for life.”

Building a Community Around the Game

The brothers’ mission is simple: spread the love of basketball while fostering a supportive community. Whether coaching young athletes, mentoring aspiring trainers, or hosting pick-up games, they aim to make basketball accessible and inclusive.

“It’s not just about skills,” Andy explains. “It’s about creating a space where people feel seen, supported, and inspired.”

A Thank You to Their Supporters

The Sinclair brothers are deeply grateful for the opportunities they’ve had to share their passion. From coaching at collegiate levels to running community clinics, they acknowledge the role of their supporters in making their dreams a reality.

“We wouldn’t be here without the people who believed in us,” Patrick says. “Our goal is to continue paying it forward by helping others grow through the game we love.”

Spreading the Love of the Game

As the Sinclair brothers look to the future, they remain committed to their mission. Whether on a local court in Toronto or mentoring players at Synergy Sports, their legacy is one of passion, perseverance, and community.

“Basketball has given us so much,” says Andy. “We’ll keep doing this as long as we can, ensuring that everyone has the chance to experience the magic of the game.”
