Dionela Has Landed in Canada—Don’t Miss This

By Ranzel
Singer-Songwriter, Call In Sick

I’ve never seen Dionela live. But today, that changes.

As a Filipino singer-songwriter based in Toronto, I’ve been to countless concerts—but rarely do I get to witness an artist who feels this close to home. Dionela isn’t just performing. He’s redefining modern OPM—and thanks to Tala Entertainment, he’s bringing it here to Canada.

I discovered Dionela on TikTok, during the early days of his song “Musika.” I remember it going viral because of the hook his girlfriend came up with. That origin story stuck with me—raw, real, and ridiculously catchy. From that moment, I knew he wasn’t just writing songs—he was letting people in.

As a fellow artist, what hits me hardest is the authenticity. Dionela isn’t afraid to write about love the way it really feels: joyful, uncertain, complicated, and deeply human. His music blends smooth 2000s R&B vibes (think Ne-Yo) with Taglish storytelling. It’s global, but still us.

And now, he’s coming to TorontoJune 14 at Pickering Casino.
I’m showing up not just as a fan, but as a Filipino musician excited to witness someone who’s reshaping the sound of modern OPM. Dionela is living proof that Filipino music can break through internationally, without losing its soul.

What do I hope to feel at the show? Connection.
It’s happening more and more—these waves of OPM stars coming to Canada. Every time, it reminds me that the community here matters. That we matter. The energy of a crowd that knows every word in Tagalog and English? That’s something special.

If I could talk to Dionela, I’d probably ask:
“How do you keep creating with your heart on your sleeve—even when the haters come?”
Because as artists, we all face it. And yet he keeps showing up. That inspires me.
