PM Trudeau announces changes in CERB eligibility

More Canadians can apply and be eligible for the announced emergency benefit as the government expands its qualifications.

Millions have applied to the said federal aid program but Canada is aiming to help more residents struggling during this pandemic. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau included in his briefing today that the Canada Emergency Response Benefit will also be available for people earning $1,000 or less a month, people expecting a seasonal job that isn’t coming, and people who have run out of employment insurance since January 1st. The CERB pays $2,000 per month for four months.

The government will also be speaking with provinces and territories about wage boost for essential workers. This applies to all essential workers who are making under $2,500 per month.
