Ontario reports more recoveries than new cases

Ontario health officials confirmed 421 new cases today and an increase of 620 recoveries.

The improvement and expansion of testing in the province were able to have 16,532 specimens in the past 24 hours exceeding what the province officials have previously targeted, which was 16,000 tests per day by May 6.

Within the tests conducted, only 2.5% came back positive. Although testing capacity was expanded, patients in hospitals are still increasing.

The current COVID numbers in the province are:

  • Total cases – 16, 608
  • Resolved – 10, 825
  • Deaths – 1, 121
  • Hospitalized – 1, 107
  • In ICU – 225
  • On ventilators – 175
