After successfully launching the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit this week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that the government will also work on providing aid for those who don’t qualify for CERB.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh asked for changes on the currently proposed benefit saying that there are more people affected by the pandemic, more should qualify under the emergency benefit and that every Canadian should be receiving the $2000 a month financial aid.

Although there is little information as to how the government plans on helping employees who don’t qualify for CERB, they’ve confirmed that millions have already applied for the benefit.

With the current COVID crisis, more and more employees are working with lesser hours. It is an expected response from business owners, cutting hours instead of cutting its staff. That is why the government is looking closely on how to help increase their pay so that they could remain working.

The PM also included in his announcement the concern for college and university students who are looking forward to working full-time during summer but will now have difficulty to go back to their jobs or find a stable full-time job because of the pandemic.

The government emphasizes that there too many gaps yet to be filled. As of today, Canada has a total of 18,447 cases of COVID-19.
